In water and chloride solutions, the dense nickel coating has a physical protective effect on uranium and uranium alloy. With the presence of pores, the corrosion rate will be increased due to local galvanic corrosion. Zinc plating provides sacrificial anode electrochemical protection for uranium and uranium alloys. The chromate passivated Ni+Zn coating provides the best physical protection and sacrificial anode protection for uranium and uranium alloy. Although zn-Ni alloy coating has good corrosion resistance and can provide physical barrier and sacrifice anode protection for uranium and uranium alloy, its protection ability is not as good as that of Ni+Zn double coating due to its densification and passivation problems. With the successful research of Zn-Ni alloy electroplating and passivation process, Zn-Ni alloy will be fully used in the corrosion prevention of uranium and uranium alloys due to its superior corrosion resistance.
 
The problem of poor compactness of the anticorrosion electrodeposits of uranium and uranium alloy is mainly caused by the adsorption of hydrogen molecules in the cathode side reaction during electroplating. In order to further improve the compactness of the coating and improve the physical and chemical properties of the coating, pulse electroplating can be used to obtain the coating with finer crystallization, lower internal stress and lower hydrogen content. In addition, cyanide - free galvanizing should be used to eliminate cyanide hazards.
